Lindy Hop

Lindy Hop is a Black American dance that evolved in the New York district of Harlem from the late 1920s alongside the development of jazz music. Its heyday was the Swing era of the 1930s and at its centre was the magnificent Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, home to the famous Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers.

We are incredibly fortunate to be dancing Lindy Hop today thanks to some of the original Lindy Hoppers including Norma Miller and Frankie Manning who passed on their knowledge to younger generations.

At Swing City we want to share the joy of Lindy Hop and other swing dances such as Balboa and Shag as well as Solo/Authentic Jazz, as best we can, while continuing to learn about the dance, the people and the music.
